As the Ministry of Social Transformation and Human Resource Development celebrates Social Work Week under the theme ‘Social Work Paves the Way for Change,’ the Staff has been encouraged to be people of compassion, who are willing to help each other. The charge came Monday from Pastor at the Spring Gardens Moravian Church Rev. Denise Smith-Lewis, during a service kick-starting Social Work Week in Antigua.
Pastor Smith-Lewis said every effort should be made to be people who care about each other, accept people for who they are and despite the many challenges in the workplace, be the new face of change. She further stated that workers must be an example and do good all the time. Also speaking at the service was Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Social Transformation and Human Resource Development, Senator Londel Benjamin. Benjamin urged the staff to continue being good Samaritans and use their skills to reduce waste and maximise efficiency.
Along with the staff from the various departments in the Ministry, Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, members of the Senior Citizens Council, and other partners were present at the service. Social Work Week continued Tuesday with recognition of the nation’s centenarians. Other activities included a community-based workshop that was held on Wednesday, a street fair and the Homes, Families and Gardens Festival, poetry, and research competition awards ceremony on Thursday.
