Local talent ‘Guava De Artist’ (Terryl Howell) has been invited to exhibit his work at the Ninety Eight Bar, Lounge & Art Gallery in London. Guava was selected after the owner of the London gallery, Kathy Morrel, visited Ana’s Restaurant & Art Gallery to view the work of several local artists. The intention was to choose one artist to display their work at her establishment.
This opportunity arose out of owner Maria Britto Bettini’s initiative to promote art and culture at Ana’s in order to enhance Antigua’s attraction as a sun and sea experience. The restaurant and gallery features pieces from local and international artists. Ana’s is creating quite a buzz with its unique mix of ground breaking events and art shows.
Bettini said “I am extremely proud to be able to facilitate Guava’s London exhibit. He was overjoyed when I broke the news that he was selected. This is one of several strategies I am implementing to highlight and promote Antiguan Art. Ana’s is a dynamic atmosphere and venue featuring a wide range of art and artistic expression, from canvases to fashion to mixology and gastronomy – Ana’s is committed to providing an experience like no other while creating an avenue for art and culture to be accessible throughout the year.”
Guava was ecstatic when Bettini informed him that he is London bound. Guava responded: “This is a fantastic stepping stone for me to break into the UK market. I have sold pieces in Europe before but I have not the opportunity to have my own show. I am over the moon and really proud that I can represent Antigua & Barbuda at this level. Thanks to Ana’s for providing me with this kind of exposure.”
Ana’s has featured work from many local artists over the last year – Stephen Murphy, Charmaine Werth, Jan Farara, Vivian Bettini, Jill Fuller, Lyris Tracey, and Nick Hadeed to name a few have.
On Friday March 6th at 6 pm, Canadian artist, Ami Blake will be featured alongside work from the Italian Gallery owners and, artists Raul Pernia and Federico Bencini. Pernia and Bencini own the Bencini Gallery in Barcelona and have committed to an “art exchange” programme inviting a local artist to display at their gallery later this year.
On March 13th Ana’s will be presenting the work of fashion designer Noreen Phillips coutureriere at 7 pm. In addition, there is a cocktail reception with a four course dinner and it is by reservations only. Ana’s Restaurant & Art Gallery is located on Dickenson Bay.
