Editor’s Note

George_BrathwaiteCaribbean Times is happy to announce the recent and timely appointment of Dr. George C. Brathwaite as the newspaper’s Editor. Dr. Brathwaite’s appointment is consistent with a pledge made by Caribbean Times to its readership and other stakeholders to improve on the quality and distribution of the newspaper. Caribbean Times is already making other changes and is set to make further exciting changes. Alongside its readership, Caribbean Times will realise its goals and become the newspaper of first choice in Antigua.

Dr. Brathwaite is a Barbadian and CARICOM citizen. He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill Campus), and the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne (Newcastle University). Brathwaite comes well qualified and with varied experience to take Caribbean Times to the forefront of news in Antigua and Barbuda. Brathwaite earned his doctorate from Newcastle University with a dissertation titled ‘CARICOM and the Politics of Migration: Securitisation and the Free Movement of Community Nationals in Barbados’ . At the University of the West Indies, Brathwaite first graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science (1st Class Honours) and followed this with a Master of Philosophy in Political Science, the thesis for that titled ‘Overcoming Weakness and Marginality in Caribbean International Relations: Rethinking Conceptual Aspects of Size, Sovereignty, and Power’.

Dr. Brathwaite is a practicing political scientist, researcher, social commentator, and columnist. His major areas of focus are: international politics, Caribbean affairs, national development, regionalism, public policy, governance, transnationalism, and additionally is keen on pursuing research on the interesting dynamic of media, politics, and society. It is anticipated that with his maturity and forthrightness, and alongside Brathwaite’s commitment people-oriented development, he will usher in a new phase for Caribbean Times. In his own words, “we must set high but achievable standards, and always listen to the voice of the people.” Caribbean Times takes this opportunity to formally welcome Dr. Brathwaite to its fold on behalf of the people of Antigua and Barbuda.
