Alitalia Airlines made its inaugural flight into the new V. C. Bird International Airport Terminal yesterday Sunday 20th December, 2015. A local delegation headed by the Honorable Asot Michael, Minister of Tourism, Economic Development, Investment and Energy within the twin island state of Antigua and Barbuda was on hand to greet the officials of the airlines, its crew and passengers. An exciting and culturally significant reception cocktail was held at the Ocean Point Resort and Spa in Hodges Bay.
The mix of tasty Italian food and drink with this nation’s cultural rhythms and dance served up a delightful evening. Among those enjoying the folksongs was the Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, His Excellency Sir Dr. Rodney Williams and his son. Also present was the owner of the resort, and several distinguished ladies and gentlemen including a strong flair of Italian warmth and joy coming on another successful evening for Antigua and Barbuda.
It cannot be underestimated the wonderful work that the tourism stakeholders are playing for this country, as new flights continue to arrive in Antigua, more tourists are coming, and with Alitalia Airlines here, the prospects for 2016 are tremendous as the airline will make weekly flights each Sunday. Caribbean Times will bring more details on the event in tomorrow’s edition with the speeches, and pictures of the exciting reception held at the Mediterranean-styled resort as a sincere welcome to this country’s newest partner and friend, Alitalia Airlines and its passengers..
